The SMS EDT control structure is based around a high performance industrial control system – Siemens 840Dsl CNC.

 

The SMS EDT system has been designed to be simple to operate, it is based around a conventional CNC system, and therefore can be programmed, modified and maintained by any third party company with knowledge of Siemens CNC systems.

 

The SMS screens provide a user-friendly environment for the Operator to work in. The environment is made up of a number of screens, which allow the Operator to adjust the EDT process variables and to monitor the EDT process. Using the SMS screens, the Operator does not need any knowledge of the CNC program structure.

 

Mounted at the top of the Control Console are the EDT Analogue Meters – these display the status of each of the EDT channels during texturing.

 

Mounted below the Operator Panel is the Machine Control Panel (MCP), this provides the standard Siemens pushbuttons, Custom pushbuttons and Jog pushbuttons.

 

Remote IO (input / output) stations, provides a modular design to the system, it eliminates large amounts of interconnection wiring, and allows the control structure to be expanded at a later date. As a mater of course, SMS provides 20% housing and terminals for future expansion.

 

The Remote IO stations are located on the Roll Rotation Unit, Dielectric System, and in each Power Cabinet.

 

The Siemens SINAMICS S120 drive system provides the Drive system for the SMS EDT system. The Servo axis and spindle drives provide control and monitoring of the axis and spindle motors located on the Roll Rotation Unit.
