dielectric unit

The SMS Smart EDT Dielectric System is very simple – the system comprises of a single storage tank.

The dirty dielectric is collected in the Roll Rotation unit, and pumped back to the filters that are located on the top of the storage tank.

The clean dielectric drains though the filters, back into the Storage tank.

A Dielectric Oil cooler is used to keep the Dielectric oil at the correct temperature. Pumps on the storage tank, pump the clean dielectric back to the Texturing Head Assembly.

filter units

The Filter elements are supplied Mann-Hummel  :-

There are two banks of filters on top of the Dielectric tank. One bank of filters will be used to filter the dielectric oil, while the second bank is a backup. The number of filter elements in a bank, depends on the size of the EDT System.

The CNC monitors the filter elements; once the filters elements are full the CNC prompts the Operator to switched over to the backup bank of filters. The ‘used’ filter elements are left on top of the dielectric tank to drained – once drained they are disposed of (non hazardous waste).

There are level sensors in the Dirty Storage tank in the Roll Rotation Unit, and the Clean Storage Tank. The level sensors indicate a low level of dielectric. If any of the level sensors are activated it will cause an emergency condition, causing the EDT texturing to stop and the Dielectric filter system to stop. These sensors are for safety precautions to prevent machining with an inadequate supply of dielectric. An appropriate message is displayed on the CNC control system informing the operator of the fault.

dielectric oil

Any suitable EDM dielectric oil will be acceptable. For example:

ESSO : Mentor 28

SHELL : EDM Fluid 130/110

EXXON : Lector 45
